Arabic Reading Foundation — Kids & Adults — USA

Noorani Qaida Online — The Foundation Every Quran Reader Needs

Noorani Qaida is a structured Arabic reading primer developed by Molvi Noor Muhammad Ludhianvi in the early 20th century. Its purpose is specific: to teach the Arabic alphabet, correct pronunciation, letter connections, and the foundation of Tajweed before a student ever opens the Quran itself.

It has been the standard beginning for Quran learners in South Asian and Arab Muslim communities for generations — taught in madrasas across Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, and in weekend Islamic schools across the United States from Minneapolis to Atlanta to Brooklyn.

The difference in one-to-one online teaching is that every mispronounced letter is caught the moment it happens — not at the end of a group session, not in a weekly feedback email, and not three lessons later when the wrong sound is already locked in as a habit.

Why Noorani Qaida Comes Before the Quran

The Quran is written in a specific classical Arabic with letters that have no English equivalents. The Arabic ع (Ain) is produced from a point in the middle of the throat that English has no equivalent for. The ض (Dhad) is produced from the sides of the tongue pressed against the upper molars. The ح (Haa) is a light aspirated sound from the middle of the throat, distinct from the English H.

Without learning these articulation points first — through Noorani Qaida — a student who begins reading the Quran directly substitutes English sounds for Arabic ones. The word looks the same on paper. The sound is wrong. And the longer the wrong sound is practiced, the harder it becomes to correct.

Noorani Qaida prevents this by building the correct sounds first, in isolation, before they are applied to Quranic text.

What happens without Noorani Qaida

Student opens the Quran directly and substitutes English sounds for Arabic letters they have never formally learned.

Wrong sounds get repeated hundreds of times and become permanent habits — significantly harder to correct later.

Tajweed correction later requires unlearning ingrained errors on top of learning the correct sounds — twice the work.

What Noorani Qaida Teaches — Lesson by Lesson

The Noorani Qaida builds through a structured 8-stage sequence. Each stage must be mastered before the next begins. By the end, the student can open any page of the Quran and read the Arabic text correctly.

Stage 1 — Arabic Alphabet (Huroof e Tahajji)

All 29 letters • Isolated forms • Articulation points

All 29 Arabic letters in their isolated forms. Correct pronunciation of each letter from its articulation point (Makharij al-Huruf). Heavy letters (Tafkheem) versus light letters (Tarqeeq). This is where every incorrect pronunciation is identified and fixed before moving forward.

Stage 2 — Compound Letters (Huroof e Murakkabat)

Letter combinations • Beginning, middle, and end forms

How letters combine when written together. How letter shapes change at the beginning, middle, and end of words. This is the stage where Arabic script begins to look like connected text rather than isolated symbols.

Stage 3 — Vowel Marks (Harakaat)

Fathah • Kasrah • Dammah

The three short vowels: Fathah (ـَ), Kasrah (ـِ), and Dammah (ـُ). How vowels change the sound of letters and determine how words are pronounced in connected recitation.

Stage 4 — Sukoon (Absence of a Vowel)

Letters with no vowel movement

The absence of a vowel. How to read letters with Sukoon correctly — a critical stage because Sukoon changes how letters sound and interact with following letters.

Stage 5 — Tanween (Double Vowel Marks)

End-of-word Nun sounds

Double vowel marks at the end of words. Nun sounds added to vowels. Tanween appears frequently throughout the Quran and its rules affect how words connect when reciting continuously.

Stage 6 — Madd (Elongation)

Alif • Waw • Yaa — how long sounds are held

Letters of elongation: Alif, Waw, Yaa. How long sounds are held and the basic principles of elongation that will be developed in full in the formal Tajweed course.

Stage 7 — Shaddah (The Doubling Marker)

Doubled letters and how to pronounce them

The doubling marker. How to pronounce doubled letters — Shaddah indicates a letter is stressed and held for double the normal count.

Stage 8 — Basic Tajweed Application

Noon Sakin • Meem Sakin • Waqf — applied to connected text

Noon Sakin rules, Meem Sakin rules, and basic Waqf (stopping rules) applied to connected text. By this final stage, the student is reading Quranic-style Arabic with basic Tajweed rules applied — ready to transition to the formal Tajweed course.

By the end of Noorani Qaida, the student can open any page of the Quran and attempt to read the Arabic text — with correct letter sounds and basic Tajweed — before moving to the formal Tajweed course.

How Long Does Noorani Qaida Take?

Duration depends on the student’s age and consistency of practice between sessions.

The biggest single variable is daily practice between sessions. A child who opens the Qaida for 10 minutes every day will progress twice as fast as one who only studies during class.

Start This Week — 3 Free Sessions

Children Ages 4 to 6

5–6 months

At two to three sessions per week, with 10 minutes of daily home practice. Sessions are 20 to 25 minutes — structured like a learning game to match the attention span.

Children Ages 7 to 10

3–4 months

At two to three sessions per week. Stronger concentration and better letter retention means faster progress through the later stages.

Teenagers

2–3 months

Discipline and study habits mean teenagers typically move through the Qaida significantly faster than younger children.

Adults

2–3 months

Adults: typically 2 to 3 months. Adults who practice daily between sessions — even 10 to 15 minutes in the morning — often complete it in 6 to 8 weeks.

Who This Course Is For

Noorani Qaida is for anyone who needs to build the correct Arabic reading foundation — regardless of age.

Children from Age 4

The standard starting point for any child beginning Quran education. Sessions for the youngest children are short, interactive, and structured around their attention span.

Adults Starting from Zero

Including those who attended Islamic school as children but never learned to read, those who memorized Surahs phonetically without knowing the letters, and converts starting from the very beginning.

New Muslims

Complete English-language teaching from the very first Arabic letter, with no assumptions about prior knowledge. Teaching is entirely in English — no Arabic or Islamic background assumed.

Anyone Who Was Taught to Recite but Never to Read

A significant portion of American Muslim adults can recite Al-Fatiha and several Surahs from memory but cannot read Arabic text independently. Noorani Qaida is the correct starting point for all of them.

One-to-One vs Group Noorani Qaida

Group Weekend School

2–4 Minutes of Reading Time Per Session

The common alternative is a group weekend school setting — typically 10 to 15 children at various stages of the Qaida, sharing one teacher’s attention for 45 minutes.

In that setting, each child gets 2 to 4 minutes of individual reading time per session. A letter that is mispronounced goes unaddressed because there is no time to stop and correct it with eleven other children waiting.

Result: Mispronounced letters become permanent habits before anyone notices.

One-to-One at eQuran Classes

Every Letter Heard. Every Error Fixed. Every Session.

In a one-to-one session, the tutor hears every letter the student produces. Corrections happen immediately. The session moves at exactly the student’s pace. No one is waiting and no one is being left behind.

Immediate Correction

Wrong sounds are caught and corrected the moment they occur — not next week.

Student’s Own Pace

No group average. No child waiting ahead or feeling left behind.

Frequently Asked Questions — Noorani Qaida Online

Everything parents and adult beginners ask before starting.

What is Noorani Qaida?

Noorani Qaida is a structured Arabic reading primer developed in the early 20th century by Molvi Noor Muhammad Ludhianvi. It teaches the 29 Arabic letters, correct pronunciation from the articulation points, vowel marks, letter connections, and foundational Tajweed rules — all before any Quranic text is introduced. It is the standard beginner tool in Muslim communities worldwide.

Does my child need to know any Arabic before starting Noorani Qaida?

No. Noorani Qaida starts from the very first Arabic letter. No prior knowledge of any kind is required.

Can adults learn Noorani Qaida?

Yes. The Qaida is equally appropriate for adult beginners. Adults typically complete it faster than young children because their attention span and self-discipline are stronger.

How long does Noorani Qaida take to complete?

Children ages 4 to 6: 5 to 6 months. Children ages 7 to 10: 3 to 4 months. Teenagers and adults: 2 to 3 months. These timelines assume two to three sessions per week and daily home practice of 10 to 15 minutes.

What comes after Noorani Qaida?

After completing Noorani Qaida, students move to Quran Reading with Tajweed — reading connected Quranic text with the pronunciation foundation they have built. From there, students continue to the full Tajweed course and, optionally, Hifz.
